For The Love Of Surfing
I have been surfing since I remember my self. My big brother which is 11 years older than me and was a great surfer in the early 90’s would push me to waves before I could walk.
I got my first real surfboard at the age of 9 and i have been surfing ever since.
My brother left home at a young age, And besides surfing becoming my favourite thing in the world, it was probably also a way for me to feel connected to him, and make him proud of me.
Surfing being my favourite thing in the world at the time, showing my brother my progress in the surf was a driving force for me to improve my skill in the water as a kid.
A lot of water passed under my board since then.
And in the last 18 years i have been using yoga to constantly improve my performance and contentment in the water, as well as in my daily life.
Finally having the tools i was searching for
In order to somehow finding the flow state on the waves of life and make it a reality.
After living and surfing in many places around the world since a young age like Australia, Nicaragua, Costa rica, El salvdor, Morocco Maldives and more. Surfing has taught me some of the biggest lessons about life and took me to some of the most beautiful places around the globe.
So many waves, hours, days, months spent in the water, sunrise and sunsets, thorough out life different stages, surfing had me facing my biggest fear’s as well as giving me divine moments of bliss that i will cherish forever.
From my hometown beach break as a kid in Israel to getting my first long barrel in Australia at my 19 birthday to living on the perfect beach breaks in Nicaragua and searching for barrels every day for months on end.
Surfing and yoga has giving me all that my soul was asking for.
This drive to improve my ability in the water even when i was injured and life seemed tough at some moments, circumstances got me to start my yoga journey at the age of twenty.
Since then yoga has grown in me and started to take a bigger and bigger part of my life and became my main means for self reflection and transformation.
Although i started sharing yoga with my friends around me from day one,
I actually started teaching Iyengar yoga for real students while living in Costa rica in 2013,
I was on a certification process and my teacher said it’s a good idea for me to start practicing my teaching.
while living in costa rica with mostly surfer students around I’ve learned to adapt the practice to the surfers needs, dealing with injuries, improving range of motion, developing stamina and agility, using the power of pranayama and the breathe to get comfortable in difficult waters.
Iyengar yoga offers so many gems for us to explore and transform our life.
Thanks Guruji.
I always said that yoga teaches us to have the agility of a cat and cut through water like dolphins.
Since then as I become a certified Iyengar teacher in 2015 and teaching Iyengar yoga for different types of students, under the guidance of my beloved teacher, from beginners to advanced, from sick and injured, old and young. I always had a group of surfers joining me on my daily classes and benefiting from this great knowledge for their own surfing journey.
Yoga can teach us to become aware of our current conditioning, so we can break through our limitations, either physical, mental or spiritual. And move towards a more gentle and peaceful life in and out of the water.
The practice allows us to take care of our own specific ecological system and bring balance, freedom and happiness and much more which is so important to our surfing journey.
I would like to share this great knowledge with any surfer interested in deepening their understanding about body mind water connection.
If you would like to improve your surfing performance and learn to take responsibility for your body and mind and develop new possibilities for enhancing your ability in and out of the water. Learn to manage and surf through injuries in the best way possible.
Rather you are looking for spiritual growth, physical strength or agility, dealing with injury, Iyengar yoga can help you with all of that.
I will be thankful to open the door for anyone interested in starting to walk the path of Iyengar yoga.
If you are a surfer or have a surf school and would like to corporate with me.
Lets talk and find a way for this to happen
